FOUR housing projects in Sungai Jelok, Kajang have been slapped with compound notices for not having earthworks permits from the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj).

Two had their project areas sealed for not following the council’s flood prevention guidelines, such as building water retention ponds and silt traps.

MPKj acting president Zulkefli Khalid said this during the council’s last fullboard meeting for the year yesterday.

“Stop-work orders have been given and each site was slapped with a compound fine of RM25,000 during an operation last week,” he said.

Zulkefli added that the developers will not be able to resume work until the earthworks permits have been obtained.

The earthworks permit is needed before a developer can submit their infrastructure plan to the council.

“The infrastructure plan includes development for land, road and drainage,” said Zulkefli, adding that spot checks will be done every week to monitor the sites.

He said that the projects are believed to have contributed to the flash floods that have been occurring in Kajang over the past few months.

Zulkefli also announced that he is leaving the council after four years.

“I would still be working with the government, but not in a local council,” he said.

Zulkefli did reveal who will be taking over from Datuk Hasan Nawawi Abd Rahman who retired as MPK president earlier this month.

However, Sepang Municipal Council president Mohd Sayuthi Bakar has been touted as a possible successor.
