OKU man among five detained for drug trafficking

KAJANG: A man with disabilities (OKU) was among five people detained by the police on suspicion of being involved in a drug trafficking syndicate.

Kajang district police chief ACP Othman Nanyan said the OKU man, who was wheel-chair bound was arrested with two others, including a woman, during a raid at Seri Mewah Apartment, Taman Seri Mewah here, last Monday.

"When the raid was conducted, the three of them were packing cannabis, believed to be sold in Kajang and Bangsar.

"Following a search, police found cannabis which was packed in aluminum foil and hidden in a bag under a bed in a room at the apartment," he told a media conference here today.

In another raid in Bandar Rinching here, he said police arrested two women and seized 75 transparent plastic packets believed to contain syabu.

He said all the five suspects, aged between 29 and 39, would be investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act. — Bernama

Drug peddlers pushing their pills in mint candy tins

KAJANG: Drug peddlers are getting creative in pushing their pills, concealing them in mint candy tins and in folded sarongs.

Sadly, it’s still not working out for them as Kajang police detained 15 peddlers during six raids in and around the district, yesterday.

Newly-appointed Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Willey Richard said his men seized some RM25,000 worth of syabu and ecstasy pills from the pushers, which were stuffed inside empty tins for mint candy and folded sarong cloths.

The suspects thought the guise was enough to fool police but they got caught out.

“The arrests were the result of a week-long intelligence operation to stop the small-time distribution of drugs in Kajang. We seized about 245 ecstasy pills and about 80g of syabu,” he said.

The suspects, aged 19 to 42, have criminal records for drug offences. Four have been charged for drug distribution.

Adding that he understood the frustrations of the people on public needs and matters not being addressed due to political tension, he said that the Government was doing all it could to manage issues, such as the drop in the Malaysian currency.

He said the people’s opinion should be the focus instead of politics because they were elected representatives for a reason.

“We need to start working towards harmony and unity because that is what Malaysia means.

“Instead of constantly preaching politics, perhaps we can look into fun projects and programmes to bring people together,” he said.
