KAJANG: A brief moment of anger
was followed by a lifetime of regret for a 37-year-old man who allegedly
bludgeoned his 75-year-old mother to death with a hammer at their house
in Taman Awana Cheras here.
A source close to the investigation said the man had contacted the police at around 10am Tuesday, informing them of an incident in his house.
"When we arrived at the single-storey terrace house, we found his mother sprawled underneath an arch separating the kitchen and living room.
"Blood was oozing from her head, leading us to believe that she was struck on the skull.
"The hammer, believed to have been used to hit her, was found in the living room not far from where her body was," said the source.
According to the source, the woman was clad in a blue-coloured shirt with flower patterns and long black pants.
Police arrested her son and brought him to the Kajang district police headquarters to have his statement recorded.
The source said statements taken from their family members revealed that the suspect suffered brain injuries after getting into accident about 10 years.
They said he was receiving treatment for his affliction at Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (HUKM).
According to them, missing his medication would cause him to be unstable.
However, we are still waiting for an official report from HUKM before establishing possible motives and causes behind the incident," the source added.
It is learnt that the suspect was living with his father and brother in the same house while his mother and sister stayed in another house nearby.
It is believed that his mother was at the house Tuesday morning to give him medication and take care of him, which apparently was part of their daily routine.
The suspect was said to have struck his mother with the hammer after they got into an argument.
Neighbours have described him as quiet, hardworking and a filial son. They also mentioned that he was unemployed.
The suspect was said to be the youngest child among four siblings.
Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Ab Rashid Ab Wahab confirmed receiving a report and said that the case is being probed under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
