PETALING JAYA: Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim is believed to have agreed to step down from his post.
Khalid is expected to announce his decision to go this Wednesday, according to party insiders.
They said that PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was on course to become the next Mentri Besar.
A by-election in a state seat is expected to be held to enable Anwar
to join the Selangor Legislative Assembly and take over the top job.
Khalid, who has been under heavy fire from his party over his
mishandling of the PKNS issue and the JAIS bible raid, agreed to the
dramatic move at a meeting with Anwar on Sunday.
Urgent discussions are still taking place behind the scenes but Anwar
is believed to have secured the endorsement of his DAP and PAS partners
for the changeover.
The developments are coming on the heels of Anwar’s olive branch offer
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to find national consensus on
various issues confronting Malaysians.
