Protect whistle-blowers, says councillor
KAJANG Municipal Council (MPKj) councillor Mohammad Ali Khair Abdul Ghafar calls for protection against whistle blowers.
He brought this matter up during the council’s monthly public complaints monitoring meeting on Monday.
He
was surprised to received a call from a shop owner saying that he knows
it was Mohammad Ali Khair who called for the barricades installed along
the walkway outside his shop to be taken down.
“Before I could say anything, the man said ‘I know it was you, I went to the council to check.
“How
could such information be disclosed? Details of complainants should be
kept a secret. The person who leaked the information must be punished,”
he said.
Fellow councillor Lee Kee Hiong added when a wrongdoer
is confronted, he or she would sometimes question why were they the only
ones caught when there are others who are also at fault.
“This shows that we should not take action only when someone makes a complaint.
“Once a complaint is lodged, we should see if others also made the same offence. We should look at the big picture,” she said.
At
the start of the meeting, Recycle Energy Sdn Bhd (RESB) general manager
John David gave a presentation on the action plan to resolve stockpile
issues.
RESB operates the Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) centre at Semenyih.
“RESB
had obtained RM15mil of funds from the bank in mid November and it will
be used for reinvestment into development projects.
“To improve
RDF efficiency, aged machineries and equipment will be replaced and
ensure 100% availability of lines (to process waste),” he said.
