PETALING
JAYA: A group went on a robbery spree, hitting eight homes in a day
around Bandar Baru Bangi, including the home of a bodyguard of Deputy
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The group of four to six men had been moving around on motorcycles and targeting various locations including a kindergarten in Bandar Seri Putra.
Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Willey Richard said the robbers were believed to be in their early 20s and were opportunistic in nature.
“They would roam around and go in when they see a chance like an open gate or door,” he said yesterday.
He said in the case of Ahmad Zahid’s bodyguard, the criminals
forced their way into his house in Bandar Bukit Mahkota when he was not
at home around 9.30am.
Armed with machetes, they subdued the bodyguard’s wife and children before looting cash, jewellery, laptops and other valuables.
ACP Willey said the estimated loss was about RM60,000.
He said the CCTV footage showed the group wore helmets to cover their faces but police were working on tracking them.
