MENTION Kajang and one of the first things that will hit your mind is satay.
Satay or sate (skewered meat) has gained regional and possibly global recognition as a popular Javanese dish.
Sate Kajang is particularly popular as
the meat chunks are considerably bigger and meatier than usual. The
perfect combination of thick and creamy peanut sauce with a tinge of dry
chili paste keeps you hankering for more.
If you are up for a little gastronomical
adventure, head over to Stadium Kajang this Saturday (May 30) where
satay makers will collectively be gearing to make it into the Malaysia
Book of Records for the Longest Satay Grilling Line in the country.
About 50,000 satay sticks will be grilled at one go and given away for free.
The event is being held in conjunction with the biennial “Karnival 1001 Rasa Sate Kajang” by the Kajang Municipal Council.
This year, the carnival — held from May
29-30, from 8.30am to 11.30pm — presents an opportunity for families to
gather and have fun.
Among other programmes that will take
place during the three-day carnival include soap-carving competition
(May 31), Satay and Ketupat Crafting Competition (May 31) and
Photography Competition, open to all.
Themed “Sate Oh Sate”, photographers can
select their best shots according to the theme, to be submitted to the
organiser (Akademi Fotografi Multimedia) on site by May 31. Participants
stand a chance to win cash prizes of up to RM500.
There are several activities for children
as well, organised by the Selangor Public Library Corporation,
including a game of scrabble (Sahibba), reading corners, colouring
competition and poetry recital competition.
