In the incident, the deceased identified as Damon Yen Zhi Yang who was feeling unwell, was at a home tuition centre in the building before his tragic fall.

According to a parent who sends his child to the same centre, the teacher had gone out to buy lunch for Yang shortly before the incident.

"The teacher has been caring for him since he was young. It was a routine for his mother to send him here. The teacher was like family to him and they are very close.

"He was sleeping when the teacher went out and had covered him with a blanket," he said.

He also said that the teacher was shocked when she returned home 10 minutes later to find the door to her home wide open and a blanket near the door.

Council president wants Batu 10 Cheras operations to be relocated

The Star, Saturday April 25, 2015
by stuart michael
KAJANG Municipal Council (MPKj) president Mohd Sayuthi Bakar wants the Batu 10 quarry in Bandar Mahkota Cheras to stop operations and move to a new site.

Mohd Sayuthi said that the quarry area is located too close to housing estates, apartments and condominiums and it poses a danger to the residents and its surroundings.

“The blasting work the quarry operators do every Tuesday and Thursday sends shockwaves throughout the neighbourhood which residents claim are causing cracks on the walls of their apartments and condominiums.

“The Hulu Langat Land Office will submit a letter to the Selangor Economic Action Council (MTES) recommending that the permit to mine at Batu 10 Cheras be terminated,” he said during the MPKj full board meeting held at Kajang yesterday.

“We understand that the quarry permit is valid until next year but we will suggest that the period is shortened.

“I understand that the quarry operators have been operating for more than 35 years but it needs to be relocated as Kajang, Cheras and Semenyih are going through rapid development.

“The quarry operators will have to negotiate with the state on the location of the quarry replacement and it might not be located in the Kajang municipality,’’ said Mohd Sayuti.

He was referring to The StarMetro’s article published on April 21, “Too close for comfort”, on residents in Bandar Mahkota Cheras complaining about the shockwaves, cracks on their properties, dust pollution and what they had to endure staying close to the quarry.

When contacted, Hulu Langat Land Office district officer Zulkefli Khalid said that he would send the letter on the quarry to MTES next week.

Meanwhile, residents in Bandar Mahkota Cheras will be holding a protest with banners at 2.30pm in Pangsapuri Mahkota Residence tomorrow.

The Joint Management Board (JMB) of Pangsapuri Mahkota Residence president Tan Su Tung said the committee had written to the National Audit Department three days ago to check on this matter.

During the meeting, Mohd Sayuthi also said he was looking at the feasibility of Bandar Sungai Long in Cheras having a bicycle lane to ease the congestion in the area as a higher learning institution would be set up there soon.

Thousands of students are expected to study in the municipality within the next two years.

He said the councillors suggested having a flyover to ease the congestion but it was too expensive and it would cost millions of ringgit.

“Having a bicycle lane would be useful for residents there to lead a healthy lifestyle while being able to move around the township with ease,’’ he said.

Mohd Sayuthi supported the idea of having two carboot sales in Bandar Baru Bangi and Taman Pelangi in Semenyih, provided these vehicles do not block the parking area with tents during the event.

MPKj has allocated about 50 parking spots for the activity.

Also, MPKj would set up two squads comprising 18 members per team in October to handle minor road repairs throughout the constituency.

Previously, MPKj only had one team.

He added that the state government urged townships in the municipality to have a residents association or committee so that they could represent the people and bring their grouses to MPKj.

SEMENYIH: On the outside, he looked like a concerned man visiting sick inmates at Kajang Hospital.

Nobody would have guessed that he was actually passing drugs to them to be smuggled into the prison.

Police arrested the 27-year-old man outside a bank in Jalan Tun Abdul Aziz in Kajang at around 4.45pm on April 2, said Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Ab Rashid Ab Wahab.

“When we searched his motorcycle we found capsules hidden inside a soft drinks box containing 455.14gm of ganja.

“We arrested him and upon interrogation he told us how he would pass the drugs to sick inmates to be smuggled into Kajang Prison,” he told reporters at the helicopter crash site command centre here yesterday.

The drugs are believed to be swallowed or stuffed in the anus of the smugglers to avoid detection by prison wardens.

“The drugs are worth about RM1,800 on the street, but double that in prison.

“The suspect had a record for theft, vehicle theft and possession of stolen property,” he said.

ACP Ab Rashid said a 35-year-old man was arrested the following day after police raided a hotel in Balakong at around 6.15am.

“He led us to his Hyundai Sonata car at the hotel car park.

“There was 916.23gm of syabu hidden in a compartment under the steering wheel of the car,” he said.
ACP Ab Rashid said further investigations revealed that the suspect was a drug pusher who was active in Kajang and the surrounding areas.

He said the men have been remanded for seven days to help with the investigations.

Thieves arrested after returning to surau they robbed

The Star, Monday April 13, 2015

KAJANG: A group of absent-minded thieves thought they managed to escape scot-free after a security guard found them stealing from a donation box from a surau here.

However as they rushed to escape, the two suspects did not realise that they had left behind their pouch bag containing their identity cards and the RM50 they had stolen.

The thieves returned to the surau about 30 minutes later to retrieve the bag, only to be detained by the same guard who was waiting for them.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rashid Abdul Wahab said the two suspects, aged 18 and 20, were found snooping around the Al-Madina surau in Bandar Baru Bangi at about 3.30pm on Thursday.

They then fled on a motorcycle when the guard approached them.

"The guard inspected the donation box they were hovering around and found they had been fishing out money from it. Next to it, he found a pouch containing about RM50 that was stolen from the box and also the identification card of one of the thieves.

"The guard and another surau goer hid in the surau, expecting the men to come back for the bag and pounced on them when they did," he said.

The suspects were later picked up by police and are being investigated for theft.

Manager finds six guard dogs dead by poisoning

The Star, Tuesday April 14, 201
KAJANG: The manager of a steel factory has found that six of his 20 guard dogs were poisoned to death.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rashid Abdul Wahab said the 57-year-old man had used 20 stray dogs to guard the place, unleashing them to roam around the compound for security at night time.

The factory manager was shocked when he found six of the mutts dead when he came to work on Thursday morning.

“He brought the body of one of the dogs to the veterinary clinic to the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) hospital and was told that it had died of poisoning.

“He then lodged a police report,” ACP Abdul Rashid said.

Police believe the poison was given to the dogs through their food, adding that the other 14 animals had no trace of poison in them.

No suspect had been detected so far as the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage revealed nothing.

The case has been classified under Section 428 of the Penal Code for mischief for killing animals.

When contacted, the factory manager said he believed one of his foreign workers was behind the deaths.

Victims of bogus officer see handicap as a dead giveaway

The Star, Tuesday April 14, 2015

KAJANG: A “Bukit Aman policeman” burst into the home of seven Bangladeshis, warning them that their place had been surrounded by four officials.

He told the migrant workers that he would shoot them unless they handed over their passports and valuables.

The Bangladeshis’ initial shock slowly turned to chuckles when they realised the so-called “officer” was a scrawny man brandishing a knife instead of a gun. He was not in police uniform.

And, he had only one leg.

The Bangladeshis then pretended to comply with the bogus officer while they called the real police, who arrived to arrest the one-legged man in Kampung Simpang Balak on Saturday night.

The “policeman” turned out to be a 34-year-old drug-taking grave digger and was a familiar face to police here.

“He was recently arrested for a house break-in but we let him out on bail because his amputated left leg was swelling. We let him go and then he goes and does this,” said Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rashid Abdul Wahab.

He said the man lost his leg during an accident. He was now wearing a prosthetic leg.

The man, he said, limped into the Bangladeshis’ house at about 10.30pm on April 11, claiming to be an officer and demanded that the Bangladeshis hand over their belongings, money and handphones.

Police arrived to arrest the man when he was still waiting for the workers to “find their money”.

The man is being investigated for impersonating a policeman and for robbery. He has been remanded until today.

ACP Abdul Rashid noted a trend of drug addicts posing as police officers to prey on migrant workers.

Another case was recorded where two men posed as officers to rob a Bangladeshi mechanic in Taming Jaya on Sunday night. The suspects brought the worker to his dwellings near the mechanic shop where he worked and hit him, before asking him to hand over RM900.

Luckily, the victim’s roommates came back from work and managed to subdue the two suspects before handing them over to police.

The suspects, age 25 and 29, tested positive for syabu.

Bukit Aman statistics estimate that at least 40% of the street crime are because of drug addicts.

KUALA LUMPUR: A 43-year-old man diagnosed with down syndrome has been missing since he left his home last Friday.

The missing man C. Prosothuman was believed to have gone to a temple, located near his home in Taman Jelok Indah, Sungai Jelok in Kajang at about 4.30pm on Friday and he has not been seen since.

His younger brother Tamil Selvan, 36, said his brother usually went for prayers at the temple every Friday but it was the first time that he has not returned.

“He left without taking his MyKad or his disabled card.

“I am very worried and hope the authorities and the public can assist in locating him,” he said when contacted on Wednesday.

He has since lodged a report at the Kajang police station.

“Despite being a Down Syndrome patient, my brother always had good sense of direction and bearings.

“He never failed to return home from the temple and the family is very worried about him,” he said.

Man faces rape charges over sex with mentally disabled woman

The Star, Tuesday April 14, 2015

KAJANG: A married man faces rape charges after he was alleged to have had sex with a mentally challenged woman 20 years his junior, since 2013.

The parents of the 22-year-old woman found the man cowering behind her bedroom door and turned him in to the police on Friday.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rashid Abdul Wahab said the 42-year-old suspect reportedly met his victim in an online chatroom in 2013 and coaxed her into having a sexual relationship with her.

The woman, who suffers from a mental illness, would text the man every time her parents left their Cheras house and he would come over for a tryst in her bedroom.

ACP Abdul Rashid said the parents left the house for lunch at about 1.30pm on April 10 and returned two-hours later to find the man trying to hide behind the door in their daughter’s room.

“The mother asked her daughter what the man was doing in the house and she replied that he came to ‘raba-raba’ (grope) her,” he said.

The parents then turned the red faced man over to the police.

A check by doctors confirmed that the victim had been sexually active for some time.

“We are investigating the case as rape as the man had taken advantage of the woman who may not understand what they were doing due to her mental illness,” he said.

In another case, a worried father who reported his daughter missing last Wednesday was shocked to find the 13-year-old girl happily gallivanting in a shopping mall over the weekend.

The girl had run away from home and had been staying with her boyfriend of a few months in a Kajang hotel.

ACP Abdul Rashid said the girl went missing on April 8 after she failed to return home after attending tuition class.

Looking for a better plan

The Star, Tuesday, 7 April 2015

At the Selangor State Assembly

THE Selangor government is studying an integrated plan for waste management, which includes waste separation, a materials recovery facility and a biomass facility.

Local Government, New Village Development and Legalising of Factories committee chairman Ean Yong Hian Wah (DAP-Seri Kembangan) said this in reply to Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail’s (PKR-Kajang) question on waste management, particularly in Kajang.

“The Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) has issued a notice of breach of contract between the council and Recycle Energy Sdn Bhd on July 16, 2014, and subsequently the council issued a notice to cancel the agreement with the company on Feb 26 this year,” he said.

Recycle Energy Sdn Bhd (RESB) was the brainchild of a private-funded Core Competencies Sdn Bhd and the company had signed a Land & Waste Supply Agreement with the council in 2004.

Ean Yong added, “Since the closure of the refuse-derived fuel (RDF) centre in Semenyih on April 8, 2014, MPKj has been transporting its solid waste directly to the Tanjung DuaBelas Sanitary Landfill since April 8, 2014.

“To ensure a more consistent solid waste collection schedule in the municipality, RM2 per unit is given to the contractors.”

He added that to solve the waste management problem in Kajang, a systematic long term plan was needed, Wan Azizah had also pointed out that leachate had leaked into rivers in her constituency.

Waste management is a long-standing issue faced by the MPKj and it was reported that there were about 500 tonnes of rubbish collected in the Kajang municipality every day.

The RDF centre could only process 300 tonnes a day, which led to an accumulation of rubbish at the centre and it had to cease operations as the Environment Department said it posed a pollution risk.

Meanwhile, the state assembly was also told that rainwater harvesting exercise has proven to reduce treated water usage by at least 30%.

Based on research conducted by the Housing and Local Government Ministry, Health Ministry, Drainage and Irrigation Department, Seberang Perai Municipal Council and Sandakan Municipal Council as well as the Selangor Development Corporation (PKNS) and the Malaysian Hydraulic Research Institute (Nahrim), treated water usage could be reduced by 70% at the maximum.

This is based on the size of the rainwater harvesting tank and water collected at any one time.

Ean Yong explained this in response to a question from Gan Pei Nei (PKR- Rawang) on the effectiveness of the project.

Ean Yong said that at present, the state government has made it compulsory for all building plans with 100 sq m rooftop space to include rainwater harvesting tanks.

“So far, this has been made compulsory for all city councils while district councils have been encouraged to do so as well,” he added.

At least eight government premises have installed the tanks at a total cost of RM569,480.

KAJANG, Malaysia — A couple waited nine years for a baby and were blessed with a little boy. Their joy lasted a mere three months.

Tragedy struck when the baby died after falling from the second floor of a flat along with a six-year-old girl.

Both the baby and the girl were found sprawled on the ground floor of the Pangsapuri Kenanga flat in Taman Sri Kantan here.

The girl suffered multiple injuries but survived the fall at about 2 p.m. on Thursday but the three-month-old died while receiving treatment.

The couple’s 41-year-old babysitter was said to have left the baby with her daughter.

Seeing that the infant was sound asleep and as it was raining heavily, she told her daughter to look after the baby while she sent her eldest son, 11, to a nearby religious school.

Upon returning home, she was surprised to see that the house was empty.

She frantically searched for the two and her worst nightmare came true when she discovered that the girl and the baby had fallen to the ground floor.

Both victims were immediately rushed to the Kajang Hospital.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Ab Rashid Ab Wahad said it was believed that the two might have slipped through a window in the master bedroom.

“Preliminary investigations suggested that the girl might have climbed up on the baby cot to open the window.

“She might also have been carrying the baby when opening the window and slipped,” he said.

He added that the girl suffered a broken spine and hip while the infant died at about 4pm, some 12 hours after the fall.

“The case is being investigated under Section 33 of the Child Act 2001 for negligence,” he said.

A neighbor, who refused to be named, said she only realized that something had occurred when she heard loud screams.

“I never could have imagined something that horrible could happen. I am really sad for the family,” she said.

The husband had earlier scolded the 30-year-old beautician for coming home late at midnight and asked for RM400, the Nanyang Siang Pau reported.

The wife refused at first but gave the money after he threatened to stab her with a knife.

Later, when the wife refused to give him the car key, the husband flew into rage and kicked her in the stomach and started to beat her.

He left the house after damaging the car.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rashid Abdul Wahab said the woman was told at a hospital here that she had suffered a miscarriage.
