KUALA LUMPUR: MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said that the party's candidate for the Kajang state seat by-election was yet to be decided.
Speaking
to reporters after attending the party's Chinese New Year celebrations,
Liow said that a list of names had been shortlisted but it was
ultimately up to each division to decide on whom they felt was most
deserving of the post.
"Anything is possible," he said, adding that the most worthy candidate would be placed in the seat to ensure Barisan Nasional's win.
He added
that the candidate would be evaluated based on their merits, and how
capable they were in being able to serve the people.
MCA, he said, was confident that BN would be able to gain back their seat, in view of the ongoing internal party crisis in PKR.
He assured the public that all parties under the BN umbrella would work hard to stay united and win the state seat.
Historically,
MCA has had a good track record in Kajang, he said, adding that there
was no reason why the party could not wrest the seat again.
"The BN spirit will be upheld and we will always be there to help and take care of the people," he said.
Liow
pointed out that PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was well
aware that BN had many talented candidates that could triumph over him
in the by-election.
He
claimed that Permatang Pauh Member of Parliament was neglecting his
responsibilities to the people's needs by running in the upcoming
by-election.
Meanwhile,
MCA Wanita chief Datuk Heng Saie Kie, who met with reporters during the
MCA Chinese New Year celebrations, announced that her wing had set up a
by-election committee to assist the chosen candidate in winning the
Kajang state seat.
"Selangor
Wanita MCA chief Ong Chong Swen has been appointed as the committee
chairman while Loh Lai Kuen has been selected as the committee deputy
chairman," she said.
Heng
expressed hope that with the whole Barisan Nasional coalition working
together with MCA, the selected candidate would present as a challenge
to PKR contender and opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
