Zainuddin Zainal, 56, whose house was 100m away from the burning trees, said he had returned from buying groceries when he saw the fire raging on the hill behind his house.
"I panicked when I saw the fire and all I thought was running into my house to save my belongings.
"I felt relieved when the firefighters managed to bring the fire under control," he said.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Mohamad Sani Harul said firefighters arrived at the scene in 30 minutes after receiving a call at about 9.30pm.
The team from Bangi and Cyberjaya departments brought the fire under control by 11.30pm.
"There was a stretch of bungalows located near the fire. Fortunately, we acted quickly to prevent the flames from spreading there," said Mohamad Sani.
Firefighter Jailani Wahdani explained that the fire could have started due to the hot weather and the open burning of garbage.
"We are thankful that no one was hurt in the incident," Jailani added.
KAJANG: A fire missed the home of a civil servant after it razed some 5ha of forest at the Sg Merap Luar hill on Wednesday.
