Three charged with kidnapping five-year-old boy in Kajang

KAJANG: Three men were charged in a magistrate's court here Friday with abducting a five-year-old boy to obtain a ransom of RM300,000. 

Labourer Riduansyah Yahya, 32, lorry driver Mohd Saifulamry Jarkasi, 28, and businessman Siow Kek Keong, 44, were accused of kidnapping the boy by the roadside of Jalan Seroja next to a house in Taman Setia, Sungai Chua here on Oct 9.

The trio were charged under Section 3(1) of the Kidnapping Act. 

No plea was recorded and no bail was offered.

Magistrate Abdul Jalil Salam Muhamad fixed Nov 21 for mention pending a report from the chemist.

S. Abirami was the deputy public prosecutor while lawyer Mohd Fadli Yaakob acted for Saifulamry and Datuk Geethan Ram Vincent for Siow. 

Recounting the kidnapping drama, Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Abdul Samah Mat said about an hour and a half after the boy was abducted, the victim’s father received a call from the alleged kidnappers asking for RM300,000.

He said the ransom was paid at about 5pm the same day by the father after he dropped the cash off near a shopping centre at Saujana Impian, Kajang.

Three men were nabbed within 24 hours after the alleged kidnapping. Police also recovered almost all of the RM300,000 ransom money that was paid.

Taxi driver Hanizan Mohamed Radzi, who was arrested along with them, was released with a bond on Friday. 

Hanizan said he found the boy wandering around the street after recognising the child from viral social media posts.

The boy was reunited with his family after going missing for eight hours. Police cleared Hanizan of any involvement.

KAJANG: There was not a dry eye in the courthouse as two families, tied by a cruel kidnapping and an unconditional good deed, met for the first time to witness taxi driver Hanizan Mohamed Radzi walk out a free man. 

Hanizan had been remanded by the police after he showed up in front of the house of a five-year-old who was kidnapped in Sungai Chua, and returned the boy to his family last week. 

The taxi driver said he had found the boy wandering around the street after recognising the child from viral social media posts. 

But this made Hanizan suspect No. 1 for the police, who later cleared him of any crime, and was seen apologising profusely to the 41-year-old at the Kajang court complex.

Hanizan, who was freed at about 10.30am Friday, said he had no regrets.

"I did all this because I did it for the community. Don't care about race. I don't regret helping that boy. I will always help. 

"I want to thank my family for their support throughout my time in lockup, though I was treated well by the police.

"I admit I made a mistake by not making a police report. I hope this will not make people afraid of working with the police," said Hanizan.

Emotions ran high as the family of the kidnapped boy and Hanizan's family met here. 

Though some from Hanizan's family wanted compensation for the trouble that had befallen them, the family's patriarch said there was nothing to forgive or ask forgiveness for.

"I am proud of my son. I am happy he is finally free. I know my boy. When the news came out, I didn't believe it. He is not a bad person," said Hanizan's father, Mohamed Radzi Itam Ibrahim, 75.

Mohamed Radzi said he and his family, especially Hanizan’s teenage children, had been through a ringer of emotions made worse by deprecating social media comments against their loved over the past week.

Hanizan was arrested by police, along with three other men within 24 hours following the brazen kidnapping of the boy in front of his Sungai Chua kindergarten on Oct 9, which was captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV).

The kidnappers had allegedly asked for a RM300,000 ransom in exchange for the boy.

Eight hours after the child was taken, Hanizan was seen driving the boy back to his home at about 5.35pm and handing him over to his family.

After nearly a week, police officially cleared him of involvement in the kidnapping, saying they found no links between Hanizan and the three other suspects.

He was released with a bond under Section 49 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The three others detained over the incident will be charged at the Kajang court Friday under Section 3(1) of the Kidnapping Act 1961 for abduction, wrongful restraint or wrongful confinement for ransom.

Cabbie to be released, no links to kidnappers of Kajang boy, say cops

SHAH ALAM: The taxi-driver detained over the kidnapping of a five-year-old boy in Kajang will be released later Thursday.

Police said the man, who found the boy and returned him to his family, had no links to the kidnappers.

He will be released with a bond under Section 49 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

"So far, we couldn't find any links to him," Selangor CID chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Adnan Abdullah (pic) said here, Thursday.

He said three others detained over the incident will be charged at the Kajang court Friday morning under Section 3(1) of the Kidnapping Act 1961 for abduction, wrongful restraint or wrongful confinement for ransom.

The four, including the taxi driver, were picked up less than 24 hours after the kidnapping last Friday.

The boy was back in the arms of his family some eight hours after a video recording of his brazen abduction went viral on social media.

The Star reported Selangor police chief Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Abdul Samah Mat saying that almost all of the RM300,000 ransom money paid out was recovered.

The boy was snatched from his mother outside his kindergarten in Sungai Chua, Kajang.

Investigation papers on Kajang kidnapping to be submitted to DPP

SHAH ALAM: Investigation papers on the kidnapping of a five-year-old boy in Kajang will be submitted to the deputy public prosecutor in two days.

Selangor deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Abdul Rahim Jaafar, however, said that no more arrests will be made.

"We have four suspects currently in custody, including the taxi driver.

"We are not expecting to make any more arrest," he told a press conference after launching the Road Safety Awareness Cycling Convoy at the state police headquarters on Tuesday.

DCP Abdul Rahim also reminded the public not to spread news on kidnapping cases so as not to jeopardise the safety of victims.

"There is more harm than good when information on a kidnapping goes viral.

"Kidnapping is a delicate case, where the kidnappers might do something rash to the victim if they know the police are on to them," he said.

Kidnapped boy reunited with family in Kajang, thanks to cabbie

KAJANG: A five-year-old boy, who was kidnapped by two men near a kindergarten in Sungai Chua, has been reunited with his family.

A taxi driver, who only wanted to be known as Nizam, drove up to the family’s home in Taman Cahaya here at 5.35pm Friday, with the child in the back seat and called out to the parents in the house. 

It was an emotional scene as the family members ran out of the compound with tears to embrace the child after he had gone missing for eight hours.

"I just found him walking on the road and I recognised him from the WhatsApp messages being circulated," said Nizam.

The boy, who was reportedly in healthy condition, was then whisked into the house.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Willey Richard said the boy would be sent to the Kajang Hospital for a medical checkup.

"The hunt for the culprits is still on," he added.

On Friday morning, one of the two kidnappers had stopped the boy’s mother on the pretext of asking for directions. 

While she was in the midst of explaining, the man’s accomplice grabbed the boy and headed to a black Proton Saga. 

It is believed that the mother managed to get into the kidnappers’ car but they later dumped her at the side of the road near a market in Sungai Chua. 

Since then, a video of the incident has gone viral on social media. 

The picture of the boy has also been shared, with netizens asking members of the public to keep a lookout. 

However, false information had also circulated, alleging that the boy was found while the culprits had been apprehended.

CCTV footage of a child being kidnapped in Kajang goes viral

KUALA LUMPUR: A CCTV footage showing a five-year-old child being kidnapped has gone viral on social media today.

The 20-second video captured two men wearing black shirt talking to the mother of the child, pretending to be asking for directions, before one of them snatched the boy and immediately left the scene in a car.

The mother was seen trying to save her child but failed to when she fell to the ground.

In a desperate attempt to seek help, she quickly uploaded her son’s photo to her Facebook account, under the name of Cammi Lim Ker Shing.

In the posting, she wrote that the incident happened at a kindergarten in Sungai Chua, Kajang and that his son was taken away in a black Proton Saga.

The video and photo of her child are now being shared widely on Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp.

Astro AWANI's attempt to contact the Kajang police station for confirmation on the incident had not been successful.
