KAJANG: One wanted to show off his
motorcycle stunts on the wrong side of the road, while another was
driving at a high speed down an unlit highway. Both ended up dead.
Two 21-year-olds were killed as a result of reckless driving in two
separate cases in Selangor, early yesterday morning, said police.
In Kajang, Mohammad Saripi Sumarlan was reportedly out on a motorcycle joyride with a group of friends.
They were riding near the Desa Serdang R&R on the Besraya Highway at about 3.49am.
Kajang traffic chief Deputy Supt Azmi Wahid said the deceased was
riding behind three of his friends, who were travelling on the wrong
side of the highway.
Street cameras captured the youth riding at a high speed and
performing a wheelie on his motorcycle before he collided head on with a
truck.
Mohammad Saripi was thrown off his vehicle due to the impact of the crash.
He tumbled to the side of the road and died on the spot there.
His motorcycle was crushed under the truck. The truck driver then sped off, said DSP Azmi.
In Gombak, a man was killed after he lost control of his speeding
Honda City near Templers Park and crashed into the back of a Toyota
Hilux.
The crash also involved a nearby motorcyclist who suffered minor injuries.
Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Ali Ahmad said the 21-year-old driver was
travelling from Rawang to Selayang at about 12am, when his car swerved
out of control and crashed into the Hilux.
“The driver of the Honda suffered severe injuries to the head and
died at the scene. The motorcyclist and the Hilux driver escaped with
minor injuries,” he said.
Selangor traffic police chief DSP Azmi Mansor said the body was taken
to the Selayang Hospital for a postmortem while Mohammad Saripi’s body
was taken to the Serdang Hospital. Both cases have been classified as
death due to reckless driving.
