Flash floods in Ampang, Kajang, Cheras
KUALA LUMPUR: A two-hour downpour in the Klang Valley caused
flash floods resulting in massive traffic jams and damages to property
today.
Flash floods also struck at Jalan Kampung Puah, Sentul, Jelatek, Taman
Nirwana and Taman Tasik Permai, Ampang, Jalan Yaakob Latif, Cheras,
Kampung Setia Jaya, Setapak, Lembah Keramat, Jalan Ipoh and Kajang.
Light Rail Transit commuters from Salak Selatan to Seri Petaling were
also left stranded when the service was shut down for more than one hour
due to flooding at a traction power substation at the Salak Selatan LRT
station.
Dozens of Rapid KL buses had to be deployed to ferry the stranded commuters.
A Fire and Rescue Department official said three people were trapped
in a taxi along Jalan Salak Selatan at 3pm after water levels on the
road rose rapidly. The level rose to two metres causing the taxi driver
to call for help.
“We rescued the two women and a taxi driver by boat,” he added.
The Smart Tunnel was also closed to traffic until further notice to allow the flood system to be operational.
Meanwhile a Civil Defence Department official said the thunderstorm
which struck just after noon, also caused several landslips at Jalan
5/58 in Taman Supreme, Cheras and in Kampung Cheras Baru, Ampang, where
two cars were buried under mud. No casualties were reported.
A van was also damaged after an uprooted tree fell on the vehicle at
the Sungai Besi roundabout and many similar cases were reported
including in Flat Sri Johor, Bandar Tun Razak here.
Until the next time, cheers.
