Unstable slope in Taman Bukit Kajang Baru causing jitters among residents

The Star has probably highlighted this issue 3 to 4 times over the past year or two but still no action taken. In the meantime, the slope is getting worse. I admire Sylvia who lives nearby not giving up and pursuing this matter.

Please do not wait until something bad happens and then only the authorities and politicians will show their face and "take action". By then, IT'S TOO LATE!!!!!!

Until the next time. cheers.

Unstable slope in Taman Bukit Kajang Baru causing jitters among residents

THE condition of the slope in Jalan 12, Taman Bukit Kajang Baru, is critical, according to recent findings by the Public Works Department’s Landslide Forensic Unit.

The unit visited the site on Oct 15 and found that there was sediment on top of the slope and the lamp posts had started to lean.

There are also cracks on the road due to soil movement and needed to be repaired to prevent water from seeping into the slope.

Dangerous: Gomez says there is water flowing down the slope and no one dares to park near the area.

According to the unit the foot of the slope is too near the houses and poses a danger to the residents.
The erosion at the foot of the slope has caused the slope to become unstable.

The unit suggested immediate action to be taken such as:
  • covering the affected area with plastic;
  • Part of Jalan Baru 12 to be closed;
  • A concrete barrier be placed to lessen the impact on the houses in case of a landslide;
  • Prevent cars from parking at the foot of the slope;
  • Cleaning of drainage system and;
  • Close monitoring of the slope.
Residents are living in fear and worry that the situation will worsen since Kajang is a flood-prone area.

Cracks can be found along the road even though it has been patched.

Last week, Kajang town was flooded due to a three-hour downpour. On Tuesday, Jalan Bukit Indah in Taman Bukit Mewah sank 0.3m.

Sylvia Gomez, who lives in Jalan 12, have brought the matter to the attention of the Kajang Municipal Council, Public Works Department, Minerals and Geoscience Department, and even written to the Prime Minister’s Department but was instead referred to one department to another.

“There is water flowing down the slope and we dare not park our cars near the area.

She added that the issue had been highlighted by the media but to no avail.

“I was informed by the council that they lacked funds.

“However, if slope-strengthening work was carried out earlier, it would have only cost RM1.3mil,” she added.
