The first to ‘interact’

The Star, Sunday January 11, 2015

SJK (T) Tamil in Kajang has set up the first interact club in a primary school in the country.
It is being sponsored by the Rotary Club of Kajang.

The assistant govenor of Rotary S. Ravichandran, when officiating the chartering ceremony, congratulated the school for being the first, as interact clubs are usually set up in secondary schools.

He hoped that the club would lead the way in organising activities for the community.

District govenor elect Siti Subaidah Adil hoped more interact clubs would be set up in primary schools throughout the country.

She thanked the school for it support, particularly its headmaster John Posko and parent-teacher association (PTA) chairman Ramesh Angamuthu for setting up the club.

Rotary Club of Kajang president Supramaniam Sinnapillay congratulated the club, which has 65 members, for taking part in various activities including the National Interact Essay competition as well as its first activity, which was tree planting, in the school.

“The uniqueness of this programme was that each member was asked to plant their preferred choice of plant in a school pot. It will be their responsibility to take care of this plant,” he said.

Through this programme, he added, the pupils could learn about tree planting and learn a sense of responsibility from having to care for their plants.

SJK (T) Tamil PTA member Dr Kulanthayan KC Mani who started the initiative, with Rotary International, to bring interact clubs to primary schools in the country, said he believed the school could carry out impactful programmes.

For example, he hoped they could run foreign language classes for their members with the aim of exposing and mastering an extra language which would be useful when networking with other interact clubs worldwide.
