Assemblyman starts petition to solve traffic issue

The Star, Friday June 5, 2015

BANDAR Mahkota Cheras residents are fed up with the traffic congestion they face every day.

Traffic jam at the Bandar Mahkota Cheras-Cheras Kajang Highway and the Bandar Sungai Long-Cheras Kajang Highway intersection could take up to 20 minutes long, especially during peak hours.

As such, Balakong assemblyman Eddie Ng has started a petition to solve the traffic issue.

“We hope to collect at least 10,000 signatures so that the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) will agree to approve the request to build a U-turn,” he said at a press conference.

Ng said Serdang MP Dr Ong Kian Ming had submitted a request for a U-turn at the SILK Highway before the Sungai Long Toll Plaza to minimise the traffic congestion.

“However, his request was not approved as LLM said building the U-turn was not possible because of safety reasons,” he said.

He said with the U-turn, residents from Sungai Long and Twin Palms who want to go to Balakong or Serdang would not have to use the Bandar Sungai Long-Cheras Kajang Highway intersection.

Another request put forward by Ng is to build a slip road at Jalan Kuari so that heavy vehicles from Budiman Industrial Park do not have to use the Bandar Mahkota Cheras-Cheras Kajang Highway intersection.

“This will help to ease the traffic congestion considerably,” said Ng.

He added that plans had been submitted for over a year already, but LLM kept delaying the approval.

“I hope LLM can consider these requests and approve them as soon as possible to ease the residents’ traffic woes,” he said.
